Kununurra the launch pad for $14 million tourism investment

9 May 2009

A new $14 million tourism venture launched in Kununurra today will revitalise the north’s tourism market.

Travelfresh, which will provide accommodation and tours in Kununurra and Darwin, aims to increase value for money at the budget end of the market.

West Australian Tourism Minister Dr Elizabeth Constable launched the venture this morning on the site of the new Travelfresh Tourist Park Kununurra, previously the Town Caravan Park.

The park will be upgraded with a new look, new accommodation facilities and a new restaurant, and will open in June this year.

The Travelfresh investment is a strong sign of confidence in the local tourism industry.

‘We’ll be offering real value for money at the budget end of the market,’ said Travelfresh Director George Hodder.

‘We will open up Australia’s north to tourists feeling the pinch of the economic crisis.’

Travelfresh Tourist Park Kununurra will offer features including complimentary internet connections for all guests, flat screen televisions with Austar link-ups and iPod connections in rooms, in addition to full kitchens, individual balconies and onsite car parking.

‘Travelfresh is about surprising our guests by exceeding their expectations of budget accommodation,’ says Mr Hodder.

Travelfresh also owns Poinciana Inn in Darwin, and is investigating further investments across the Top End.

All properties will undergo refurbishment to fit the Travelfresh brand, with a focus on providing a value-for-money tourism experience without compromising on service, cleanliness or fun.
