$50,000 Complimentary Home Energy Makeover on offer in Alice Springs
20 March 2009
A competition for a free home energy makeover valued at up to $50,000 is being launched as part of the Alice Solar City first anniversary celebrations.
The makeover will be available for two Alice Springs households - a unit and a house.
“We are looking for an average Alice Springs home and unit to give it an energy efficient makeover – at no cost to the homeowner”, says Alice Solar City General Manager, Brian Elmer.
“The household will be chosen through an open selection process and depending on the house selected, will include the installation of energy efficient measures such as solar hot water, solar photovoltaic (PV), insulation, painting the roof white, external shading and more.”
“We are also seeking to include water efficiency measures and are currently discussing this with Desert Knowledge Australia COOLmob.”
“This is a fantastic opportunity to increase the value of your home, make it more comfortable and reduce its on-going running costs.”
The successful home will provide the Alice Springs community with a demonstration home for major aspects of energy efficiency and solar energy, so applicants must to be happy to open their home to the public (under the supervision of Alice Solar City) on six days of the year.
Applications for the home energy makeover will be available at the first birthday party being held at Araluen Arts Centre this Friday from 5-7pm. Further information will also be available from the Smart Living Centre.
Applicants will have six weeks to submit their application which will address a variety of selection criteria.
It is just one of over $70,000 worth of prizes being given to residents as the Alice Springs project congratulates residents for a successful first year. Other prizes include a solar power system, a solar hot water system and 2000 packs of energy efficient light bulbs.
