100 roofs to go solar in 100 days in Alice Springs
27 July 2009
Alice Solar City has issued a solar challenge to the Alice Springs community – for 100 home or business owners to commit to installing 100 solar systems between 27 July and 27 November before funding ends on 31 December.
“It is all part of our 100 Days of Solar campaign, where our mission is to find 100 solar roofs in 100 days”, says Alice Solar City General Manager Brian Elmer.
“We consider it to be urgent and it would be a great shame if our residents were to miss out on up to 60% off the recommended retail price of a solar power system.”
“To be honest, Alice Springs residents are very lucky – whilst the national funding program has recently finished, we have some of the best solar deals on offer in Australia and that is why we are issuing this challenge.”
“We basically have enough funding left for about 100 solar systems, so there has never been a better time. The added benefit is that customers will be paid a premium for all the power they generate, giving them a great return on their investment.”
The number of solar systems installed on Alice Springs rooftops has gone from just two to seventy since the Project was first launched in March 2008.
“This is a fantastic achievement, with residents and businesses spending over $1.5 million on installations already.”
“Consumers are becoming more aware of the technology and they see it as an investment in their future, especially when power prices are expected to increase nation-wide.”
The 100 Days of Solar campaign offers some extra incentives for people to go solar, such as a $100 BP Fuel Card for every customer who commits to going solar and there is a draw for two cash prizes worth $1000 each.
Alice Solar City also wants to unearth at least 100 reasons to go solar and is looking for input from the community.
A brand new Blog site, where the public can contribute their ideas has been created on the Alice Solar City website. All contributors to this Blog will automatically go into the draw to win a hamper full of eco-friendly gadgets (valued at over $300).
